Water on a Slope

Water on a Slope

Focus Question: How does water move on a slope?

Our scientists began by engineering a slope and observing what happens when water domes are placed on a slope.
Their experiments concluded that water domes always move downhill, gravity pulls water downhill. They concluded that there is a cause and effect  relationship between the size of the water dome and the speed at which it travels: larger water domes move down slopes faster. They also found that the steeper the slope the faster the water dome travels.

I am amazed that we have just concluded the first month of school, September flew by! This past month has been filled with community building, learning routines and expectations, and getting to know each other! Our Reader's and Writer's Workshop is well underway and we have already conducted our first science investigation! In math we are focusing on rounding, place value and problem solving. Third grade Social Studies has us using our map skills to learn more about our state of Massachusetts!

I enjoyed meeting so many of you at our Open House. If you were not able to attend and would like to stop by after school one day and visit our room please let me know!

A reminder that students book bags should live in your child's backpacks so they are prepared for school each day.

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 10th. I have attached the schedule, if you did not sign up at Open House please email me the time that will work for you. If you are unable to attend any of the available time slots, let me know and we can arrange a meeting time that will work for you. Your child's progress is my number one priority, if there is something that you would like to discuss prior to conferences please do not hesitate to contact me and we can get together.

This Thursday will be our first trip to BOC, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for spending the day outside.

A reminder that this Friday students do not have school.

I will be sending emails home throughout each month to keep you updated on the happenings in our classroom and I encourage you to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

I feel incredibly lucky to spend each day with your amazing children, you have a wonderfully nurturing and dynamic school and I am so happy to be a part of it!

Look who came to meet us! Mrs. Chandler made a special visit to our classroom on Monday to introduce us to their new baby boy Sullivan, we w...
